What should the Lakers do with D'Angelo Russell?
DLo is averaging 24 points on 61.2 TS% with 6.5 assists over his last 13 games with the Lakers.

“The reemergence of D’Angelo Russell and how well he’s played on this East coast trip over the last few weeks. I think that makes it a lot easier to move forward with Russell as the point guard.”

There are a lot of problems moving DLO. The Hawks didn’t want him but finding a third team that will take him and have assets that the Hawks value is problematic. Factor in that that third team most likely would want draft capital to take him, it makes it even more difficult. While Murray would definitely be a defensive upgrade, DLO still is the better all around offensive player. While there might be an improvement I’m not sure it would be enough to substantially move the needle. There is a lot of chatter about smaller deals and I believe that maybe the direction the Lakers take.

The FO has to ask themselves this question about the D.Russell situation:
Do you believe he’s the player you’ve seen the past few weeks or the player he’s showed himself to be for his entire career?
If he’s the former then you definitely keep him. If he’s the latter, then you probably wanna move him before he regresses back to the mean. I don’t know the answer, but in my personal/professional life I tend to lean on history and when somebody has already shown you who they are….believe em.

I actually listened to that podcast. Vernon basically said wait until the games count and DLo is unplayable before jumping to conclusions.
