Lakers should consider trading for Turner & Hield. Turner signing extension for a below market price for two year in exchange for more money this year.
Bottom line, no worry now about extending Myles on a reasonable deal. Rob should pick up the phone. Pacers deal is not dead. https://t.co/ALB9BEFX6k

Pelinka should place a call right now to the Pacers.
Extension makes trade more likely for Lakers.
Eliminates worry about extending him.

The Pacers have told anyone that will listen that they wanted to keep him. The only question was would he agree to resign. And now he has.

He can still be traded. In fact, the extension makes trading for him safer and easier.

The Lakers, of course, have been most heavily linked to trades for Turner and his teammate Buddy Hield since last summer, when they reportedly got as close as the proverbial “one-yard line” internally on a deal before deciding against it. And according to Wojnarowski’s follow-up story, that is as close as such a deal is going to get:
Turner’s extension eliminates one of the top possible centers from the summer free agent marketplace — and ends the speculation of a trade deadline deal involving him.
“Ends the speculation?” Well, not so fast. Because while that line from one of the league’s most plugged-in insiders would naturally lead one to believe that this extension fully closes the door on a trade for now, it would appear based on both my reading of Larry Coon’s CBA FAQ and the tweets below from two of the NBA media’s leading salary cap experts, Turner is still at least legally trade eligible in much the same Bojan Bogdanovic is after extending with the Pistons earlier this season.
This is because Turner’s extension is fewer than three years, and because his salary on the extension is declining in value rather than increasing (by virtue of the Pacers frontloading his raise this year with their available cap space).
In fact, this deal realistically makes Turner an even more appealing trade target, even if it also lessens any urgency for the Pacers to move him right this minute for anything less than a great package because they don’t have to worry about potentially losing him for nothing this summer.

The Pacers are not a free agent destination. That’s why they overpaid. 30 million is a lot for a non all star or even 3rd string all defense. Even with his extension they are 30 mil under the cap next year. He is young enough to fit with their other young players. The Pacers have said all along that they don’t want to tank. This is another example of that.

That could be true but so could this:
The other reason for the extension was to make Turner more tradeable. Teams did not trade for Myles because they knew there was a risk of him being a rental because he was on an expiring contract. Nobody wanted to risk that they could not re-sign him. The Pacers smartly fixed that by paying him $17 more for this season ($8 to be paid by the team that trades for him) and then two below market years at $20M.
It’s a win-win situation. They get a better trading chip and chance to trade him and if they can’t, they get to keep him at an affordable and tradeable salary since they were under the team minimum salary and would have had to spend that $17M anyway.
Really smart move by Indy front office.

That’s not happening. They’re going for a deep playoff run and secured an elite defensive player for a team that prides itself on that. Lol…he can still be traded. You crack me up with some of this stuff dude.

I agree it’s smart for Indy. They are not a destination franchise. MT is in his prime and under contract. Doesn’t pan out in a season or two? Like you say: fairly easy deal to move. Just not in the next two weeks lol

This is just grasping desperately at straws man. It’s always made sense for him to at least re-up w/Indy for both parties. The Lakers fumbled this one. While I do believe that 2 unprotected FRPs is an overpay it probably would have been worth it. This is why I both don’t get overly invested in trades and have very little faith in this current FO. So, while I’m neither surprised (I also called this one like 2 months ago…because it’s simple and makes sense) nor overly disappointed (neither player would have the featured role they have on Indy here) I am amazed that you would post this desperate, nearly begging, article or Tweet or whatever. The ship has sailed dude, feel free to watch as it is swallowed by the horizon as it sails away.
You wont like this logic, either, but it basically means Indy is locking into this team for the season and going for a deep playoff run…like their owner has wanted them to do all along. They will not be tanking for VW. They’ll keep Buddy, who is more likely to be traded either this summer or around now next season due to his expiring deal.
I know, logic and common sense are boring. I just don’t roll any other way.
