Like I said in the podcast last night, the Lakers don’t really care about this game other than to finish the first half with no more injuries. Makes sense to give LeBron the night off. We should be able to handle the Kings without LeBron and AD and the game itself is just 1 of 72. Don’t risk anybody getting hurt, especially LeBron after playing last night.

One of the things we talked about last night and which is a great reason to listen to this podcast is how the Lakers defense and offense have adjusted to no Anthony Davis.
Defensively, the big change has been LeBron taking over as the Lakers middle linebacker, calling out coverages, playing the passing lanes, and blocking shots and making steals that have been igniting the Lakers fast break offense. This was the Bron we saw in the playoffs, giving the Lakers two DPOY quality leaders.
Offensively, the Lakers showed greatly improved ball and player movement. Rarely was the ball sticking in LeBron’s hands on the wing while everybody stood around. In fact, LeBron made it a point to give the ball to Dennis to start every possession and to run two man pick and rolls or pick and pops rather than 1-on-1 isolation plays. Best offensive movement we’ve seen all year.
Frank deserves some credit after all the justified criticism. Good to see him make the adjustments on both sides of the ball. Test will be to repeat this adjustments against the Suns tomorrow night to put to rest any concerns about the Lakers. It just could be that AD going down might end up being a plus for the Lakers. There’s always silver linings to take advantage of.
Give us a listen and a five star review. Thanks.

It was great having Jamie back on the podcast. Fun to have a great win to discuss after the last stretch of OT wins in trap games and losses we could have won and then blowouts we endured. Thank you, Dennis Schroder, and LeBron James setting the tone on defense.
Going to be interesting to see what Frank has planned for Steph tonight. Will he follow Gerald’s advice and have Dennis waiting outside his hotel to start shadowing him in non-social distancing? Stop Steph and you win game. Let him lose and you could easily lose the game. Lakers going to need to blitz him like Dame.

That warn’t no trap but a drubbing.
Utah looks like we did often times last season. We had great luck with health last season, this season not so much.
Agree with both LT and LRob in regards to Quinn Cook: once a Laker always a Laker and LakerTom was spot on when he brought up the Kobe connection.

Sorry I couldn’t be there for the Monday/Wednesday games, those are rough nights for me. Should be good Friday, hoping we get better effort.

On the plus side, the Lakers took 45 threes tonight, something I wish they would do more often. On the negative side, they only made 13 of them and went 1 for 13 in the fourth quarter.
On the plus side, they held the Heat to 35 points in the second half and just 15 in the 4th quarter. On the negative side, they allowed 61 points in the first half and played most of the game from behind.
On the plus side, Kuz played excellent defense and rebounded well, Wes defended Jimmy well. On the negative side, Kuz didn’t shoot that well and Wes missed a wide open game winner/
On the plus side, they stole the inbounc pass and had a change to tie or win the game. On the negative side, Alex Caruso continued his poor play and missed the shot to tie the game giving him another ‘zero’ game.
On the plus side, we almost pulled off the win and only lost by 2 points with two starters and our second superstar out. On the negative side, close only counts in horseshoes.

Podcasts after disappointing losses are always tough. The Lakers were terrible last night, especially their 3Pt defense leaving Harris open and their horrible 3PT offense. Can’t win a championship if you continue to lose the 3-point differential.
While Lakers 3PT defense sucked last night, it’s been one of the reaons why our overall defense is #1 in the league. Before last night’s game, the Lakers had allowed the 3rd lowest makes, the 4th lowest attempts, and held opponents to the 3rd lowest 3p% in the league. Last night’s 3PT defense was not good but the Lakers’ problem is their 3PT offense, not their 3PT defense.
Offensively, the Laker take 27th fewest threes, make the 26th fewest threes, and shoot the 27th lowest percentage on threes. They don’t even make enough threes to cover the threes they allow, which is the 3rd lowest in the league.
The formula for winning with LeBron James has always been to surround him with elite high percentage and high volume 3-point shooters. Rob Pelinka needs to make moves at the trade deadline because the Lakers have a serious problem when it comes to their 3PT offense.

it was great to see the ‘Next Men Step Up’ last night. Kudos to LeBron James who reinforced his MVP campaign, Dennis Schroder who made a great case for a new extension, Trezz Harrell who proved ‘Elephants are not King of the Jungle,’ Keef Morris who rained threes like the playoffs, Marc Gasol who needs to spend more time in the corners, and Kyle Kuzma and Alex Caruso who have become the ‘Glue Brothers’ on this team.

Game was fun as we got to see Dennis, Kyle, and Trez do their thing and get almost 20 shots up each. Some tough bounces were the difference. Buddy always kills the Lakers. He’s exactly what the Lakers need, a shooter who can give them 7 of 11 from deep in any game. Not a bad contract either as it goes down every year and ends at only $18M in the fourth year.
