I make no apologies for my predictions! lol, the “ban” will be petitioned and overturned, I assure you!!!
February feels like a trap month so far…
Paint points becoming an alarming issue.
We’re not designed to outscore teams, between our season long turnover issue, points in the paint issues and general three point shooting malaise we’ve become extremely one-dimensional.

We’ll see about the Sydney Situation, lol.
Trap Games remaining: Minnesota on Tuesday, Washington 2/22, then we have to wait for the 2nd portion of the schedule to be released.

Wild and wooley conversations about the Lakers lackluster win and stagnant offense and uninspired defense as well as a lot of spirited fun talking about the All-Star picks for the West and East. Jamie and I finally agreeing that THT might end up starting over KCP at some point this year. Thank God LeBron still had a couple of dagger threes left in his quiver after two OT’s.

Join Gerald and I for a great podcast celebrating what we consider to be the Lakers best second half of the season. LeBron separating himself from the competition for MVP. AD struggling on offense but anchoring the D. THT growing right before our eyes. Schroder winning Lakers hearts with a double dive. AC making the right plays. Trezz closing games, Kuzma blocking shots. Great night to be a Lakers fan. Join us and celebrate!

Great conversation with Gerald, Jamie, LRob, and me about Lakers win. Everybody expressed their opinions on what’s wrong with the Lakers, with a lot of criticism on Gasol and KCP not contributing, AD and LeBron playing too much isoball. My take was this is just one of those periods in a long season where everybody is tired and flat. Bottom line, we were all happy that Caruso saved the day and we didn’t have to be going into Monday’s game against the Hawks mired in 3-game losing streak.
My biggest takeaway was Frank limiting the rotation to 9 players and including THT as the 9th man ahead of Morris and Matthews. Playing a set 9-man rotation is important becasue it gives everybody a chance to know when and with whom they will be playing, allows them enough minutes to get into a rhythym and develop rapport with their teammates, and enables the team to develop chemistry and continuity, which gets lost when the coach is trying to play 10 or 11 players. Hopefully, Frank will stick with these 9 for the foreseeable future.
The bench unit of AC, THT,Kuz, and Trezz playing with LeBron looked great and should become a staple as the Lakers move forwared. I love the AC and THT backcourt. No Morris and Matthews for a while. What got lost is we held another team under 100 points and remain undefeated when we do that. And, always great to beat the Greenies.

Gerald and I are surprisingly on the same page with the Lakers’ loss. Sixers played great and were lucky to salvage the 1 point win. Lakers played terribly and still almost pulled off an incredible comeback. Actually took the lead with 11 seconds left.
I thought Vogel did what he did all regular season last year, which is use these games to figure out what works and doesn’t work against possible playoff opponents. Lakers adjustments to Embiid at the half were excellent. Just need to hit free throws and this game was a win despite AD in a shooting funk.

Man, I’m still not comfortable talking about Kobe and that tragic helicopter crash that killed him, Gigi, and seven others. Just thinking about it makes my eyes water.
Like Kobe, I was on my way to coaching one of my granddaughter’s basketball games when it happened. Both granddaughters wear 24 in honor of Kobe and all I could think of that day was Gigi and how tough it was going to be for Vanessa and his other two daughters.
RIP, Mamba. The Lakes are and will always be your team.

Like I said in the podcast, too much needless angst over the second half. Yes, it would be nice to win by 30 but you can’t expect a team to be as focused when they have a monster lead like that. This is the NBA and teams don’t win games by 60 points for a reason. There’s no point in keeping your foot on the gas for 48 minutes. It wastes energy and risks injury. Like I told Gerald, game was over at halftime. We should just call the game and do the podcast then. Second half didn’t matter so why waste time even discussing it. Great dominating defensive win by the Lakers. Period.
One thing not covered by the discussion of the top five teams was where the Clippers, Nets, Bucks, and Sixers ranked defensively compared to the Lakers. Lakers first at 103.6. Clippers 16th at 109.6. Bucks 8th at 108.4. Nets 25th at 111.8. Sixers 6th at 106.3. Defense wins championships. Of course, it’s still early and the sample size is small and trades could change things but the Lakers will play their 18th game on Monday against the Cavs, which will mark the 1/4th point of the season.
The Lakers have not even gotten close to optimizing all of their weapons. AD and LeBron both have another entire gear or two they can go to and the defense is just now starting to jell. I believe Lakers are going to separate themselves from the pack in the next quarter or 18 games of the season and extend their lead over the pack. Defense wins championships and the Lakers defense has lots of room to get even better. Lakers are in a tier all by themselves.

Good to have Jamie back live on the podcast. Lots of fun after a great second half we could all enjoy and rave over. After three OT games against inferior competition, we really needed this win.
