Things Basketball Related I’d Rather Talk About Than LeBron James.

    1) Luka and Bam partying in Greece at a Michael Jordan event, Rui was there too! They’re all going to the Heat or we’re trading spare parts for Bam! Yay!

    2) How solid Swider’s been playing in summer league. His rebounding has been pretty good, shooting as billed, good connector. Lot to like there. Probably gets snatched up by another team this season if he keeps playing like this.

    3) The archaic nuances of the CBA. Whee!

    4) Adam Silver’s Slytherin vibe. Seriously, you’d never get into Hufflepuff or Gryfindor, dude. Slytherin all the way.

    5) How solid and in control Bronny James has looked. Again, summer league, but you can tell the man has been in the gym. His jump shot is more balanced and he just generally looks better prepared and more confident. Still gets sped up too easily but that should come in time.

    6) The archaic nuances of the old CBA. Fuck it, let’s get old school and go back in time or something.

    7) BAZE! Darius Bazely. Feels like we’ll keep Shake but maybe, just maybe, the Lakers are trying to work his non guaranteed deal into a Beal trade but that just feels like wishful thinking at this point. It’s clear nobody wants to do us a favor so unless cancelling out 3ish mil in cap space is the crux of everything I kinda doubt it. Anyhow, would just love to keep him on the team.

    • I think Shake will be cut. Doesn’t mean they will fill his spot but it gives them money and a spot for later on. If they don’t, they are pretty much stuck.

    • I love Summer League basketball but I just can’t get too excited about 2nd year + NBA players showing out against rookies and other dudes just hanging on to the dream.

Having said that…these 3 dudes have looked solid. Better than Dalton so far…we may have put hin the Hall of Fame a lil bit too soon.

    • I don’t know how you can compare LeBron’s situation with Kawhi’s. Kawhi was 27 and entering his prime. LeBron is going to be 41. No one is going to gut their team for him. The most realistic trade would be the Warriors sending Butler. Jimmy has another year left on his contract so perhaps the Lakers could get a first out of the deal. But it’s hardly a big win for the Lakers. They have a better chance of winning with LeBron this year and they would still be hand tied next season with a 37 year old Butler on the books.

      • Even buying LeBron out would not make a lot of since, considering there isn’t any real difference makers left in free agency, especially for the amount of money LeBron would be willing to to give up for a buyout.

      • I disagree. Kawhi is the perfect example of a team making a 1-year rental for a shot at a championship that paid off. Any team trading for LeBron knows it’s a 1-year deal at this point in time.

I’m not in favor of the Laker trading LeBron but I think it’s getting more and more obvious that the Lakers are almost trying to get LeBron to request a trade. Now that they have Luka, the Lakers would like nothing better than to have LeBron ask for a trade so they would not lose him for nothing in free agency.

There’s no other reason why the Lakers would not be willing to go all-in to win a championship with 2 of the top 10 superstars in the league than they’re trying to get LeBron to request a trade.

The smart and right thing to do is go all-in to win this season while limiting moves to Luka’s timeline. The Lakers still have time to do that but fans are going crazy because they simply do not trust Rob Pelinka and Jeanie Buss. They still have enough control to fuck things up for good and ruin the relationship with LeBron.

Anyway, we have dead wood that we cannot just let walk without making a consolidation trade. We still need two more defenders. One to guard ones and twos and one to guard twos and threes. If we get that, we can still compete. We’ve made some good moves considering. Just hard to have any trust in Rob.

        • Tom, the Raptors didn’t sign for a one year rental. They offered him a 5 year deal at 38 mil per. Kawhi took the Clippers 34 mil 3 year deal with the promise that the Clippers would trade for his buddy PG. They wanted to keep him. LeBron is totally different. The cost of the contracts it would take to get LeBron would make a team worse and LeBron would veto the trade. As for consolidation trades, good luck swinging that without draft capital. By the way, consolidation trades need to happen earlier as most teams rosters are full now.

          • You say “teams” as if the Lakers have the leverage in where he goes. I assure you, they do not.

            • It’s simple. That’s why teams are reaching out to Rich Paul, not Rob Pelinka. Such a waste of mental energy…

        • There’s never been, nor will there likely ever be, anything like this. The dude is 41 with a full no trade clause so he can go to probably 1 team: Golden State. He didn’t want to go there midseason, hard to see him wanting to go there now. The Lakers are hoping for but one thing: the retirement tour announcement. That’s it.

    Stupid CBA

    Aloha,

Well it seems the entire league has ground to a halt as everyone waits on the Bradley Beal situation. It’s funny how one guy can stop everything in the NBA.

The Suns are a cautionary tale for teams over spending in the new CBA world. Boston did get a ring but most of those moves happened before the agreement.

The Bucks stretched Lillard adding 20 mil a year to the cap and now the Suns maybe doing the same thing with Beal. To top it off the Suns just gave Booker the riches contract extension in league history. He is a very good player but 75 mil in his last year? At 33?

I will never understand why the rank and file NBA players continue to vote for deals that benefit a handful of players and screw everyone else.

Booker is a good example. He is still under his old contract and will be paid 61 mil next year. We know Austin is under paid but his projected salary next year is in the 30 mil range. In 4 more minutes a game Booker scored 25 points to Austin’s 20 but to be fair Austin was the 3rd option. Booker had 7.1 assists to Austin’s 5.8. Austin had a half a rebound more. Booker shot 33% from 3, while Austin shot 37%. Booker has become a better defender over the years but he is far from a stopper. And they both play with the same desire and determination.

I’m not saying Austin is as good as Booker but for my money I would take Austin every time. To me 5 points and an extra assist is not worth 30 mil. That can buy you a quality player or two.

Perhaps someday the rank and file NBA players will wake up and vote for a more even pay scale. Until then we will continue to see 75 mil over pays like the one for Booker.

    • Agreed, but the NBA has always been a star’s league. At least since 1980. I agree though, I’m always amazed it breaks so poorly for the majority of players. It’s a microcosm of America. Everyone wants the dream and believes they can get it, I guess…

    • It’s funny how click baiters work. Part of the same interview Paul also mentioned that LeBron hadn’t even expressed in any interest in a trade. But the click baiters are going to milk this until the trade deadline.

    Bucks Getting Cole Anthony

For the minimum…Solid, solid pickup who could have been great for us. These are the kind of things I’d be stoked for us to be doing right now. Rob can never swing these kind of things.

    • While I agree it would have been a great pickup for the Lakers, the Bucks is his best opportunity. As currently constructed Cole is the Bucks starting PG.

    • Trading the best player by far. I’d rather see us shoring up the guard spots.

      • I think right now everyone is waiting on the Bradley Beal situation. I expect Beal will go to the Warriors. They have a full 14 mil MLE available. That actually impacts the Lakers because the Warriors were seen as the major competition for DeAnthony Melton because they had more money. If they spend it on Beal, that could open the door for the Lakers to land Melton.

    • Dude. When all you got is $2.78 you’re not buying Wagu steak man. Lakers saving canon balls for 2027, sign and trade greaser.

      • Rob is smart enough to know that you don’t trade Rui, Dalton, a third contract to make the money work and our only 1st round pick. That package is for a star player that actually moves the needle, not a guy that hasn’t been the same for 3 years. I wouldn’t trade Rui straight up for Wiggins. He’s a better player. Tom wants the Wiggins from 4 years ago. As for Jones, he never was on the trade block. I don’t know where all the trades for him came from.

        • Actually I do know where they come from. A click baiter makes stuff up and suddenly everyone thinks it’s real.
