Willie Cauley-Stein makes decision on player option
Dallas Mavericks center Willie Cauley-Stein will decline his $2.28 million player option, as expected, and become an unrestricted free agent, league sources told HoopsHype.
Cauley-Stein, 27, has shown the ability to switch on defensive pick-and-roll coverage and is at his best as a mobile roller on offense.
The sixth overall pick of the 2015 draft has spent the offseason working out six days a week with trainer Tyler Relph. The 7-foot center has also worked on expanding his range beyond the arc to adapt to the league’s floor spacing trend.
I’ve always loved Willie Cauley-Stein and have probably created dozens of trades through the years to get him on the Lakers. I think the Lakers might seriously consider both him or Nerlens Noel as possible replacements for Dwight or JaVale.
Could be, sounds like he’s expecting more than $3 mil tho, that won’t be with us. At least not early on but it’s good (as a fan, hard for a player) to see that there will be plenty of options to plug the 5.
I think watching all of the Lakers role players looking for a payday might lead him to want the attention playing for the Lakers might get him. I also think Frank Vogel might prioritize a player who can defend all five positions. It was inability to defend on the perimeter than made JaVale and Dwight unplayable in the playoffs more than not being able to create spacing. And there’s the ring!
Stop it Tommieboy, ha, ha, ha!
