Because he’s smart enough to know and own his NBA history. We all saw as much last season where we wince at every fall and crash into the stanchion. I think I read that the difference between the 5 with the PO and the 2+1 was something like 4.7 mil/season. Locked in guaranteed money for 5 years and will avoid the same fate as Isiaih Thomas, Boogie Cousins and others who got hurt before the payday happened and are now forever left chasing NBA table scraps. An ignominious fate for superlative talents who happened upon some bad injury luck.
