Welcome back Cook. It kind of caught me off guard as far as the way things took a turn at this point, but I am not surprised. I do know LeBron spoke highly of him as a pro. Me personally, I have always liked his speed with the ball and when he is hot from beyond the arc he is very deadly. In a game during the bubble he drained 5 three pointers. It’s just that he doesn’t have much playing time but he is a great teammate and a champ.
11 of 16 players back from last year’s championship team almost guarantees the Lakers will once again have great chemistry. Cook and Dudley may not play much but both are still capable of contributing if needed and have proved to be invaluable when it comes to the team’s chemistry and culture. We addressed needs to get better to win now with LeBron and get younger for the future for when AD takes over.
This is a really good move for a ton of reasons. We were short on PGs, and Quinn bleeds purple and gold. But it also shows how savvy Pelinka is when it comes to negotiating the cap. Getting Cook back after letting him go? Brilliant maneuver and one that was likely orchestrated with his agent and the players knowledge on some level.

Good.

Also explains why we didn’t W&S him to enable us to have cap space for 15 instead of just 14 players. Couldn’t have re-signed him if we did that.
