Pelinka notes that with the departure of Danny Green, he expects that Kyle Kuzma can enhance his role as defender for the team with the abilities he showed throughout the bubble.

There are three reasons this is smart:
-Load Management for LeBron (Kuz can step in and spot start a few times this season)
-Cheap player, high impact (not a lot of that out there)
-Possible extended trade chip now or next off season (Rob is saying all the right things, he’s going after The Freak)
Good points, Jamie. But depends on what happens tomorrow. Load management and fewer trade options are definitely a factor though Kuz will have to prove he can shoot to get an extension.
I do like Kuzma as the potential primary backup for KCP at the 2 and LeBron at the 3. He can defend both positions and what you can defend is what you can play in this league. He was always mismatched at the 4 and 5 because of his weight and strength. He’s a better fit at the 2 and 3 because of his length and quickness.
As for the Freak, I think that ship has sailed. With the cap only going up to $112 million next season, it’s almost impossible to sign a third max player and build out a roster. And I still think Giannis is likely to stay with Milwaukee or go to Miami. Finally, I don’t think he would be the best fit on the Lakers. We need a stud guard to go with LeBron and AD. And we just might have found him in Dennis the Menace.
