Vibrant discussion among all participants. I think we talked Gerald off his ledge but nobody can talk LT down from benching the centers right off the bat after a loss, lol.
Kidding aside, I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this and appreciated everyone’s input. Good stuff.

In my defense, I would remind everybody that Frank Vogel ended up making most of the changes at the center position I proposed, including replacing McGee with Morris and then replacing McGee with Howard. Interesting that you interpret my proposed changes as disliking traditional centers. The common thread seems to be the play of JaVale McGee, which I was happy with earlier in the season but not in the second half, the Bubble, or the playoffs.
As for starting AD, I do agree with you that there is a justification for using that as a late game weapon ala the Warriors Death lineup, which I’ve referred to many times in my writing. With two games to go, however, we may be at the point of inflection where Frank needs to go with our best five from the get to. There’s a strong argument in favor of that too for any objective thinker. It could be the difference maker, although we probably will win even if we don’t do it. The Heat just cannot match LeBron and AD.

We’ll see, I don’t think the 13 minutes of Dwight list the game for us in the same way the game and a quarter of JaVale in Houston was an obvious issue. The Miami beat our small ball line up, badly, so I’m not confident the answer lies there, either. I think we might see more size than we did in game 3 but mainly I feel that Frank, LeBron, AD and Rondo will work it out on and off the court.
-
Also, it’s a joke about your first reaction in a loss being ‘bench the centers!’. It’s funny in that’s its consistent.
-
All things being equal, why would you not want a center who could stretch the floor? Give me Shaq and I might feel differently. Otherwise, the game has changed because of the three and there are very few centers today who can impact the game without shooting from deep. And even most of them can be played to the bench against some teams.

Join Gerald, Rafael, Sean, and me for another Lakers Fast Break roller coaster as Gerald tries to bribe his way back on the Playoff Rondo train, I complain about how the series has revolved into a series of boring blowouts, Gerald tries to keep the convos on track, and we all have a good time frstrating him by digressing. Lots of laughes and good times for Lakerholics. Give us a listen and that five star review. Thanks.

Join Gerald, Rafael, Sean, Jamie, and me for a fun and rambunctious podcast where we debate whether the Lakers or Heat have a better bench, whether there’s anything Miami can do to comeback, whether LeBron or AD is going to win Finals MVP, and a host of other Lakers centric subjects.
Bottom line, things don’t look good for the Miami Heat and the fellows are unanimous the Lakers are going to be hard to beat in these playoffs. Join the fun. We haven’t been in this position for twn years so excuse the early celebrations and death verdicts for the Heat. Like the Blazers, Rockets, and Nuggets, the Lakers are in the process of killing their playoff dreams.
13 down, 3 to go. #17 is getting closer and closer!

Fun podcast despite my effing Internet issues. Bottom line, Rafael has Lakers in 7, Sean, Jamie, and Gerald Lakers in 6, and yours truly Lakers in 5, just like I had the Lakers vs. the Blazers, Rockets, and Nuggets. Let’s hear what your takes are on the NBA Finals. Lakers or Nuggets and in how many games?

Super podcast. We’re slowly working on getting Gerald to buy a ticket on the Playoff Rondo Bandwagon before the Finals so he won’t miss all the fun. Gerald and Sean still thinking Nuggets are going to win Saturday so series goes to 6 games. I still have the Lakers in five (with a brief road bump detour to a sweep) so I’m looking to keep up with the Heat and celebrate the semis before moving on to the Finals. 11 down, 5 to go. Lakers 2020 Champs. All hail the Bubble!

Wow! Rafael now has Gerald doubting Lakers are in charge even though they lead 2-1 and almost came back from 20 to win Game 3 after being overconfident. He and Rafael think the Lakers gave the Nuggets confidence? Watch tonight as we snatch that away from them. Big mistake underestimating LeBron James and Anthony Davis, guys. Embarrassing.

Whether it was over-confidence, the shell zone or the greatness of the Nuggets’ superstars. The Laker bench struggled in general against the Nuggets. It’s funny how McGee’s 8 minutes can sink or swim a ball game…lol. Dwight won’t make it 20 minutes in a playoff series guarding Jokic and the Nuggets pick and roll. In 14 minutes he picked up 4 fouls. Whether he deserves them or not or if other guys would get those fouls isn’t really a debatable point. If you want him to be on the floor when the game matters you need 10-15 minutes of JVMG. While not stellar minutes I don’t think they’re terrible.
Nuggets outworked us, tip the cap and move on. There are plenty of minor tweaks we can deploy: drop that zone earlier and mix the looks up you give Jokic and Murray on D, stop Grant from getting easy buckets on rim rolls and try and activate Kuzma. You could start Dwight but I worry about his late-game availability/effectiveness.

Well the GHE gang got their wish and it looks like the Lakers in 6 will be the correct call. After needlessly padding their predictions with a game in each of the first three rounds, the law of averages finally came to save them. Lakers in 6 it is.
Time for Frank Vogel to shut down this misplaced fascination with trying to make JaVale McGee and Dwight Howard somehow heros in the era of the modern NBA. No freakin’ excuses that we need Dwight to protect AD or convoluted reasons for continuing to play into the Heat’s hands and start Howard. It’s like Trump pimping Putin for Christ’s sake.
The Heat’s pluck and luck is going to run out Sunday night. No more miracle shots banking in as the shot clock goes off, deflected passes bouncing to open shooters ala Robert Horry, and no more zebras looking to get paid for another playoff game. Jimmy and his troupe of eager overachievers go down in flames. Ef em all. No mercy, no respect, no taking the foot off the gas. Time for Mamba mentality.
