Normally, you would kind of figure the guys who were paid the most would be the players who would get the starting nod and the minutes. If true, then the two players who make the most after LeBron, AD, and Russ are THT ($10M/Yr) and Nunn ($5M/Yr).
That would make the Lakers play-who-gets-paid starting lineup to be Russ, Nunn, THT, James, and Davis. An interesting lineup that might be short on shooting unless Talen suddenly starts raining threes. At any rate, hard for the role player who would be the biggest difference maker not to be one of the two role players who would start.
My gut feeling says Nunn could be the difference maker because I think he has the talent and athleticism to shine as the starting shooting guard. Since he’s also one of the few prospects for backup point guard, it’s possible Vogel would prefer him in that role in the event we don’t sign Rondo or IT to backup Russ.
I also like Ellington a lot and think he is probably going to be our best 3-point shooter. His ability to reset himself after being chased off a three reminds me of Steph. Getting open for more threes is a critical component to being a elite volume 3-point shooter. Wayne could easily win the starting shooting guard slot.
Finally, there are several candidates to start at small forward. While he’s only 6′ 4,” Kent Bazemore is my pick to start at small forward. His mix of elite 3-point shooting and solid perimeter defense and length make him a perfect fit.
Bazemore’s competition to start at small forward is Trevor Ariza, who looks to be in great shape, and Talen Horton-Tucker, who also looks to have lost weight. Ariza has the size while THT has the big contract and both will be in the mix to start at the three.
Bottom line, we’re going to need to see how guys look in camp to determine who’s going to be the most valuable non-superstar on this Lakers team. The good part is there are lots of viable candidates to consider.

My criteria was based entirely on your impact to the Laker’s franchise. Had to leave LeBron and AD off based on short years of service, yes they won a title, but for my part they need to bring a little more to the table to merit top ten All-Time Laker status. Shaq would have been higher but for how he left the franchise. Same for Magic because of how he under-performed as a coach, President and late night talk show host. Cap was the fulcrum around which the Showtime Lakers functioned, best release valve on offense ever. West is higher than some because of his contributions in assembling some all time great talent on the Lakers.
CARUSO should be #1 on all of our lists, Spence, you’re right!

Some great takes on the Laker roster. I agree with Spencer on bringing back Wes and bringing in Paul Millsap. He’s got 15 mpg and some clutch shots in him!
BRING BOOGIE BACK!!!!
The Laker version of Extreme Makeover. Nobody gonna want Marc, not without throwing away a pick.
LeBron said no to Buddy. That maxed out the cap and then some on 3 guys and took away some of our tools.
Marc gonna be there at the start and at the end. Here’s my thinking: one he would have retired and done Team Espania if the offer was there or the role was right, one has to assume it is not. Also, the Lakers seemingly are in penny pinching mode so I don’t see a buyout the longer the season goes on.
Spencer’s list is really close to mine. I have Shaq and Jerry switched. George Mikan is another one close to making my top ten, he and Coop. Hard to argue with LeBron’s inclusion, Spence.
magicman with the boldness and audacity drops, love it. Hard to argue swapping Magic and Kobe, magicman. High placement for LeBron! Love Cooper making the list, I took him on and off my list a couple different times.

It was Jamie and I regaling the positives about the Westbrook trade while Gerald and Spencer took the low road. The big question is what will the Lakers do next. Will they try to expand the Westbrook trade to add Buddy Hield? Or will they decide instead that the cost in taxes for Hield is too much and will try to just add vet minimum 3-point shooters to solve the shooting problem.
Lots of talk on the web about the Lakers plan is to get physical like 2020 and that they may not need more shooting. That would be a huge mistake. Whether Jamie and I are right or Spencer and Gerald will be determined by how the Lakers finish free agency.

To clarify, I don’t believe there is a snow ball’s chance in Hell we’re getting Buddy. I think it far more likely we reel in some of the cheaper shooters out there.
I have nothing but excitement for us acquiring Russ.
-
Cheaper shooters who take 2 to 4 threes per game and make between 1 or 2 is what you mean. That’s not the same a a player who takes 10 and makes 4 threes per game. The former teams ignore because they’re not difference makers. The latter is where the opposing team has to commit a player to stick to all the time because they’re a high volume and percentage 3-point shooter.

To clarify LakerTom, it was Spencer and I taking the high road to clarity, as opposed to you and Jamie taking the road to future headaches. I sincerely hope that we are incorrect but the analytics and stats back up everything Spencer and I agreed upon. Not a good fit and a potentially big issue come playoff time without adequate shooters.
