Fun podcast as Gerald and I kick off the midseason trading talk with a lot of discussion of what it means for the Lakers opening up the possibility of adding Russell Westbrook to THT and Nunn as valuable trading chips.
While I would love Ben Simmons, the fact that the Lakers have discussed trading Westbrook is the big news as there are many teams out there for whom he could be a smart move.
There may come a time, however, when Daryl has to accept that Russ might be the best he can get for Ben. There may also come a time when Rich says Ben will only play for the Lakers this year.
Lakers should continue exploring the opportunities because THT and Nunn will not be enough to get the Lakers the players they need to win another title.
Sixers, Pacers, Pelicans, Celtics, Pistons, Hawks, Nets, Cavs, and Mavs are all potential candidates who might be interested in trading for Russell Westbrook, especially as he continues to improve his play with the Lakers.

Just finished my morning hike during which I listened to last night’s post game podcast with Gerald. Spent much of the time complaining about Frank Vogel’s starting lineup moves of replacing DJ and AB with DH and THT. Frankly, no pun intended, I’m done supporting Frank Vogel. Don’t know who they would turn to other than Fizdale but we can’t keep sabotaging our starting lineups. Frank needs to wake up or be replaced. You can’t roll out a starting lineup where you only have one 3-point shooter who makes over 30% of his threes. That’s suicide, especially against an elite 3-point shooting team like the Flippers.

Great job by LRob holding down the fort for me. Gerald and Lee did a great job. Listened to the podcast in my hotel room while traveling on business. Not as good as on a hike and wish I would miss just losses and not the wins. Anyway…
Couldn’t get my League Pass to work on the road so listened to the Lakers game on Sirius while watching the Suns take down the Warriors. Best second half of the year. Lakers now need to follow up with a big win on Friday against the Flippers.

LOL. Needed win by the Lakers, who still look like a .500 team. Superstars played great. Role players not so great. I loved seeing LeBron at the five and hearing it will be part of the rotation going forward. That’s good news.
Great job by Gerald taking over as the GHF guy for the podcast. Some good discussion about Frank being on the hot seat, how he’s going to survive until the trade deadline, and what can the Lakers do to turn things around?
The Answer, as AD said, a 10-game winning streak. 1 down, 9 to go.

Have we all moved past the “it’s only 1 game”. brush offs? I sure hope so because this team is in dire need of some tough love and serious internal and external evaluation. We can’t stop anybody who is possessed of decent to elite speed. Shoot the three poorly because our three point guys can’t defend, AD, LBJ and Seuss still figuring out how to close games. Frank doesn’t have the gravitas to force LeBron away from his tendencies and, if one is honest, why should he? LBJ has won doing things his way. Just got to ride this out and hope it improves. One positive is that Russ is playing well enough that he could be traded so…not sure if that’s a true positive or more if a fallback/silver lining…

The problem is the ‘it’s only one game’ mantra doesn’t keep the glass half-full when you have 11 of them in your first 21 games or quarter of the season. Doesn’t mean that injuries and roster construction won’t still be a problem though. Last night was too much of the same problems with no promise of things getting better.
I know agree the Lakers have major issues. I still believe the return of Ariza and Nunn would be a huge help but also that the Lakers will need to fix the small forward size issue at the trade deadline and luck out in the buyout market because Ariza and Nunn are not enough to fix all of our problems.
Since we realistically cannot make a major trade until THT is eligible to be traded on January 15, Vogel has to somehow survive until then, a full month and a half before the Lakers will be able to get help from outside. There’s a good chance Frank may not make it that far in my opinion. The problem is we can’t be 15-15 on December 15 or close to 20-20 on January 15. AD said this team can go on a 10-game win streak and everything will be fine. Well, AD, truth is that is exactly what the Lakers need to do if Frank Vogel wants to keep his job.
We need to see changes in the starting lineup tonight. If Frank refuses to do that, he may precipitate his own firing. Coach better realize how hot his head coaching seat has become and how much pressure there is on him to do something bold and successful.

Happy Thanksgiving, Lakerholics. Great win for the Lakers and LeBron and great podcast from Gerald, Lee, and me. Give it a listen when you make room before or after gorging on all of the good Thanksgiving treats. I think you’ll enjoy the banter. Gerald, Lee, and I had a great time.
Good to be able to enjoy the Lakers at least finishing 2-3 so I didn’t have to join Jamie and Gerald in a Lakers’ hatefest podcast. Lakers slowly but surely finding ways to win. LeBron at the 5 and Monk and Wayne raining threes off the bench. Pacers played a great game, as everybody does against the purple and gold, but LeBron rained the threes in OT and the Lakers get to enjoy turkey day with at least a .500 record and home for the holiday.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Buba. And thanks for all of the great contributions you’ve made to the blog and our community. If you’re ever visiting Northern California, please let me know so we can meet in person.
I’m scheduled for a right shoulder replacement on Jan 19. Was having a hard time deciding if I wanted to go through with after hearing from you and some others who had had the surgery. Decided the pain would only get worse so I’ll just have to live with the short term pain to get rid of the pain down the road.
How is your recovery going? How long since your surgery? Drop me an email with an update. Thanks.

Thanks, Buba. Love to have you and your family visit us in the Bay Area if you’re ever here. I’ve always had a problem of just living with the pain rather than having anything done, even physical therapy. Just figure it’s only going to get worse. Glad to hear you’re doing well. Just what I needed to hear, man. Thanks.

Not so fun wrap up. Lakers are going to have a losing record on the roadie and are fighting just to come back home at .500.

Excellent podcast, guys. Very balanced considering we stunk in the first, looked great in the second and third, and ran out of gas in the fourth. Congratulations for a terrific job.
We’re kind of like the team that’s been so battered and beaten that you almost think what else could happen? Unfortunately, after last season, we have a little better perspective.
Anyway, great job summarizing everything, Gerald. You are the host extraordinaire. And Jamie’s objective musings and thoughts were, as always, thought provoking and entertaining.
See you guys tonight. Thanks for making my morning hike a breeze,

We’ve got a month of these types of games and podcasts coming for the next four to six weeks until AD returns. Hopefully, the time off will help him get ready for a championship run like the time off in the bubble. The only worry is we need a center right now so we don’t wear out LeBron playing the five. It’s obvious after last night that DJ is washed.
