Great takes on why the Lakers need to have Marc Gasol in the rotation. Sorry Trezz. Marc can be the game changer for the Lakers in the playoffs this year that Rondo was last year.

I was calling for this in game 2 of the Andre’ Drummond Experience. It’s not that Dre’ is a bad player or that he has no future with the Lakers (although the path to that future is quite murky). It’s that we have no time to integrate him into what we’re doing and he seems like a guy who needs reps to get it into his head. These are athletes, not scholars after all. I think Dre would do fine if he had a camp and preseason and a whole season of repetitions to get on the same page.
I like your idea of letting Dre’ loose against 2nd stringers or if Gasol is in foul trouble/ineffective/etc. Gasol, Dre’, Trezz each of them has warts and is an incomplete player. But each also has a strength (or 3) and can help swing a series if deployed properly.
I think the biggest question hanging out there in Laker Land right now is can the one Laker who is at every game but never sees floor time replicate his playoff success from last season? Can coach Vogel make all the right moves, push all the right buttons and pull all the right levers again to give us the best shot possible to repeat? It’s a question not asked enough but has huge implications, IMO.

You’re absolutely right about Frank needing to push the right buttons this year for us to repeat. The competition is higher, the challenges are greater, and the variables more daunting. Last night was a sign in the right direction. Despite their turnovers, he managed to get Caruso and Horton-Tucker in and out at the right times and he benched Drummond for Gasol in the fourth. Good signs to make us hopeful that Playoff Frank will be in charge instead of regular season Frank.
