Wow. This is great news. Much better fit than DeRozan.
Dennis is also on a 1-year deal so keeps the Giannis dream alive. If deal is really for Green and the pick, that would be sweet. Dennis makes $15.5 million. Danny $15.4 million.
Dennis is still just 27. 6’1″ 175 lbs.
18.9/3.6/4.0 in 30.8 minutes
while shooting 46.9/38.5/83.9%
Shot 5 threes per game.
Lakers get third scorer and second playmaker.
Probably signals Rondo is gone but I would still go after him.
Big question now is what do Lakers do with MLE?
With Rondo and Bradley likely gone, they will have $9.3 MLE.
Spend it all on Ibaka? Or split it on Baynes and Harkness?
Wow I didn’t see that one coming but I love it. Those are the kind of moves I want the front office to make. I like it better than some of the vets on the wrong side of 30 that’s been mentioned. I still have a hard time believing that it’s Danny and a late first rounder. Perhaps there is a 3rd team, maybe a contender interested in Danny. I also think this is a sign that KCP is staying. I couldn’t see them making this trade If KCP was gone. Our perimeter defense won us a ring. Still not sure what Bradley will do. I think this means that Kuz is safe for now. Without Danny’s contract there isn’t much of a trade available that would be much of an upgrade. Now it’s about the MLE and other exceptions. This should be a year for bargains on short term deals. And we won’t be holding a slot for a max contract so we should be able to add a couple of quality role players.
I love this trade, especially because we did not have to give up Kuzma to get it done. It makes me certain that another deal involving Kuzma is in the works. Rob had no hesitation in moving his starting shooting guard without having to include his most valuable trading chip.
The next big Lakers news is what are we getting for trading Kuzma, who needs to go where he can start because he has the talent but is not going to replace LeBron or AD in the Lakers lineup. Best time to trade him is now. And our biggest need right now is a stretch center. Wood would be the perfect fit as another great young player to go forward with Davis.
Excellent points as usual, Michael. Dennis has always been the one I have always wanted the Lakers to acquire since the season ended. Great move by the Lakers. I think this is the time to see if Pelinka can finally build a real team as opposed to the last off-season when his hands got tied up with Kawhi”s saga even though he did a masterful job with what was available at the last minute.
I think that be very good for us! And yes LT, keep Giannis in mind!
