It’s a different defensive style with no drop coverage but it’s the formula that won the championship last season and the Lakers are showing early they can play it with different combinations of players, which gives them more versatility.
A lot of this is ‘early season with short off-season’ blues kinda thing. not worth over-wringing hands about.
Considering the short offseason, compressed schedule, new personnel, and new defensive strategy, it’s really encouraging that we now have the second best defense in the league. Or it might be we’re just ahead of the rest of the league defensively right now. Seems like scores are up compared to last season.
Most encouraging of all is we’re doing this essentially without AD, who ranks last on team and only has blocks in 6 games vs. 2.3 blocks per game last season. In the end, I think we’re going to be much better defensively.
