Read MoreThe fallacy is it’s more likely that the good game by Drummond against the Suns a week ago was an outlier because he has traditionally not played well against teams with a high powered center or strong team defense. The issue is many of his stats seem to be empty stats that don’t move the game.
The coach’s job is to create schemes on offense and defense that optimize his players and make it easier to win games. It’s not just rolling the ball out and expecting LeBron and AD to play like superstars and win. It’s about creating a scheme that optimizes their skillsets on offense and defense.
Both the stats and the eye test are telling us that playing Drummond at the five with LeBron and AD is not that scheme. Obviously, Pelinka and Vogel must believe differently and that the problem is we have not had enough time and games to get the James, Davis, and Drummond Big Three working.
If you agree with that thinking, you’re going to change your mind once it costs us a rare shot at our 18th NBA championship. The Drummond experiment could easily result in a first or second round loss for the Lakers.

Podcasts after disappointing losses are always tough. The Lakers were terrible last night, especially their 3Pt defense leaving Harris open and their horrible 3PT offense. Can’t win a championship if you continue to lose the 3-point differential.
While Lakers 3PT defense sucked last night, it’s been one of the reaons why our overall defense is #1 in the league. Before last night’s game, the Lakers had allowed the 3rd lowest makes, the 4th lowest attempts, and held opponents to the 3rd lowest 3p% in the league. Last night’s 3PT defense was not good but the Lakers’ problem is their 3PT offense, not their 3PT defense.
Offensively, the Laker take 27th fewest threes, make the 26th fewest threes, and shoot the 27th lowest percentage on threes. They don’t even make enough threes to cover the threes they allow, which is the 3rd lowest in the league.
The formula for winning with LeBron James has always been to surround him with elite high percentage and high volume 3-point shooters. Rob Pelinka needs to make moves at the trade deadline because the Lakers have a serious problem when it comes to their 3PT offense.

it was great to see the ‘Next Men Step Up’ last night. Kudos to LeBron James who reinforced his MVP campaign, Dennis Schroder who made a great case for a new extension, Trezz Harrell who proved ‘Elephants are not King of the Jungle,’ Keef Morris who rained threes like the playoffs, Marc Gasol who needs to spend more time in the corners, and Kyle Kuzma and Alex Caruso who have become the ‘Glue Brothers’ on this team.

Next 3 Wins Could Put Nuggets & Rockets in Lakers’ Rearview Mirror
Starting as the #6 seed, the Los Angeles Lakers have won 4 straight games in a row and 7 of their last 8 to leapfrog the #5 Denver Nuggets and #4 Houston Rockets and take over the #3 seed in the West by a half game.

5 Things: Finding Some Grit
65 games in and the team is starting to look a little sterner, little grittier. One of the ugliest first halves I’ve seen since the 90’s man. The win was one of the more impressive of the season, in my opinion. 1) Luka finding solace on the court. Sounds like his personal life has been […]

On the plus side, the Lakers took 45 threes tonight, something I wish they would do more often. On the negative side, they only made 13 of them and went 1 for 13 in the fourth quarter.
On the plus side, they held the Heat to 35 points in the second half and just 15 in the 4th quarter. On the negative side, they allowed 61 points in the first half and played most of the game from behind.
On the plus side, Kuz played excellent defense and rebounded well, Wes defended Jimmy well. On the negative side, Kuz didn’t shoot that well and Wes missed a wide open game winner/
On the plus side, they stole the inbounc pass and had a change to tie or win the game. On the negative side, Alex Caruso continued his poor play and missed the shot to tie the game giving him another ‘zero’ game.
On the plus side, we almost pulled off the win and only lost by 2 points with two starters and our second superstar out. On the negative side, close only counts in horseshoes.
