waived. Can’t see a squad looking at Marc and saying ‘THAT guy puts us over the top!’
-
TradeNBA.com takes into account Kyle Kuzma’s poison pill that allows the Lakers to consider only $3.6M going out but $10.6M in (average of current contract and extension) to team to whom he would be traded. Also allows for S&T scenarioes and adds draft picks to trades.

Great conversation beween Jamie, Gerald, and me about whether the Lakers need to make a move. All three believe they do but I’m the only one who thinks they will actually make a big move.
I also put forth that the best thing that may be happening with the Lakers right now is continuing to struggle with 3-point shooting and rim protection as it may be the push needed to get the team to make a big move.
Rather see us struggle and make a big move than suddenly start hitting our threes like earlier in the season and thnking we’re fine and standing pat and then getting blown out in the second round of the playoffs like the Clippers were last season. This is not last season.
I believe NOT making a big move to improve those two areas is a bigger gamble than making a move that doesn’t work. We’re not going to get a sure thing in any trade we make as we don’t have the assets to acquire ‘sure thing’ players.

Those Knickerbockers are on the cusp of something special and Julius Randle is a huge reason why. That team, if management doesn’t blow it, can be contending with another major piece (NY has a TON of picks they can toss in to sweeten any deal, cap space to spare now and lots of cap space coming this off season. They could facilitate a Houston rebuild with expiring deals for VO and some picks along with filler deals, not sure they’d want to surrender the players it would take to land a LaVine or Beal (if they’re even on the market) and, like all teams pretty much, need some dynamic playmaking and scoring. I called them as the 6th seed but with the right moves I could see them challenging for the 4 spot or higher if other teams in the east continue to flounder.
The eastern conference looks to be in buy mode in the coming weeks. Lot of teams doing well that have assets and cap space. Going to be interesting to see how this shakes out.

Agree 100% with you, Jamie. And great suggested topic by Sean, AKA Magicman for each of us to give our picks for 6th seed. I still love the idea of trading for Nerlens Noel as soon as Mitchell Robinson returns from injury. I think you’re right that Knicks can aim higher than 6th. My pick for 6th are the Hornets and Melo Ball.
My pick in the West is the Mavs, who are startling to play to their potential as Porzingis gets healthier and Luka gets back into game shape. Going to be some exciting races. The Play in tourney is also going to keep a lot of teams looking to win rather than tank. Great move the the NBA.

Some excellent discussion at the end of the podcast by Gerald, Jamie, Sean, and me about recent racial incidents in NBA against Asians and Jews. Gerald’s married an Asian woman and has two Asian daughters and my father was Chinese and my grandfather a coolie who came to America to work on the railroads and send money back home. Coolies were just another version of slaves.

Great to hear of Rafael Barlowe moving to Locked on NBA Draft podcasts on Mondays and Thursdays. Couldn’t have happened to a more talented or classier guy. Congratulations, Rafael.
Excellent job by Gerald as the host and Rafael talking about the teams that impressed him and disappointed him the first half of the season. Gerald does a great job of giving Rafael the opportunity to show his knowledge and insights.
-
Thanks, Tom, looking forward to going back to school this weekend and passing out some mid-season Laker grades.
-
Kudos for sticking with Lakers in Finals, Gerald. Right now, I’m obviously worried Rafael may be right that the Nets will beat us for the championship this year.

Game was fun as we got to see Dennis, Kyle, and Trez do their thing and get almost 20 shots up each. Some tough bounces were the difference. Buddy always kills the Lakers. He’s exactly what the Lakers need, a shooter who can give them 7 of 11 from deep in any game. Not a bad contract either as it goes down every year and ends at only $18M in the fourth year.

Next 3 Wins Could Put Nuggets & Rockets in Lakers’ Rearview Mirror
Starting as the #6 seed, the Los Angeles Lakers have won 4 straight games in a row and 7 of their last 8 to leapfrog the #5 Denver Nuggets and #4 Houston Rockets and take over the #3 seed in the West by a half game.

5 Things: Finding Some Grit
65 games in and the team is starting to look a little sterner, little grittier. One of the ugliest first halves I’ve seen since the 90’s man. The win was one of the more impressive of the season, in my opinion. 1) Luka finding solace on the court. Sounds like his personal life has been […]
