Baynes would be the better pickup. My hope would be Serge for the vet min. Not sure he’s in our future though.
-
Let’s see what else Gerald can do to anger me. This was like the Dump on LakerTom podcast:
(1) Misconstrue a Tweet.
(2) Dump on Lonzo Ball.
(3) Dump on Jared Dudley
(4) Dump on Mike D’AntoniBe sure to watch the next podcast…

-
For the record, it was Jamie who was very negative about D’Antoni. I just thought it was interesting that he had assumed he had a head coaching gig and unfortunately for him, he could only get the Nets Asst. Coaching gig. I don’t think the father issues are as big of an issue now then what it was with that first year with Lonzo. Could Lonzo be the new Rondo? That could be a possibility.

As you might have guessed, this was probably the most heated podcast we’ve ever had as we argued about controversial coach Mike D’Antoni and whom the Lakers should trade and whom they should keep and whom they should pursue and when.
Lots of different takes by the guys so please listen and chime in with your own opinions as to what the Lakers should and might do to upgrade our championship team as we head into 2021.
Also a great discussion of what the NBA and the NBPA have to decide before next Friday and how that will impact what the Lakers can do. And will Rob Pelinka refuse to take on any contracts for more than a year to save cap space for Giannis? The Lakers 2021 season is at stake. Listen to the pod and add your take below. Thanks.

I must have missed it on the live feed but I caught this comment LakerTom while editing the audio version. Did you really say Jared Dudley is one of the “Must Keep 9” players the Lakers need to have back on their roster?…..Really?
-
Yes, not because of his contributions on the floor but in the locker room. Lakers will need players on minimum contracts to fill out the roster who will rarely play. That’s going to be essential because of what they will have to pay to get KCP and Rondo back, not even counting on Morris and Dwight. Duds will be one of those players for sure.
-
I mean on a minimum deal I don’t see the harm, solid locker room dude and great example for what young players we have.
But not necessarily on any “have to bring back” list I have.

I’ll say it here again, and probably not for the last time: Mike D’Antoni is a great OFFENSIVE coach who does a great job at installing high octane offensive sets, enabling shooters and focusing on ball movement and a focus on analytics. He is not a good defensive coach, he does not seem to have a good feel for that end of the court. Does he pay ti lip service and talk it up at the apropos times? Yes, yes he does. But it took Jeff Bzdelik to create the switch everything schemes and get Harden to buy in at the level he did (which was not a very high level) and that all went out the window when he went to NOLA to become the Associate head coach and even moreso when MDA, Morey and Harden endorsed the ‘All Small Ball, All the Time’ ethos that we saw towards the end of the regular, regular season. We saw how well that worked in a 7 game series.
I’ve long advocated for him to do what he has just done: become what could be the best offensive coach in the NBA. I’ve also thought that, based on his philosophies, he’d make a good college coach, as well. Possibly great. But when you openly disdain an entire position (center), de-value the space between the three point line and the paint to the point of absurdity and have yet to coach in an NBA Finals I personally find it hard to label a coach ‘great’. Innovative? Yes. Ahead of his time? On offense, yes. But that’s about where it ends for me.
Also, apologies to the vitriol by proxy victim during the podcast, Gerald. You took the bullet meant for me and I’ll never forget it.
-
We’ll have to A2D, Jamie. I’m not saying Mike was ever a defensive basketball genius because as he evolved, he realized you can’t just outscore everybody and you needed to play defense. His lineups the last few years rarely had players who could be hunted and even the Suns had some excellent defenders.
I also apologize for the vitriol. It was aimed at the constant demeaning that most Lakers fans have for Mike D’Antoni based on his stint with the Lakers and their complete refusal to give Mike credit for the major impact that he has had as a coach on the modern game of basketball. I’m looking forward to the reunion of Nash and D’Antoni and the revival os 7 seconds or less.
-
Between Nash’s first rodeo, MDA, and Kyrie the Nets just became ‘must-watch’ TV for me, lol
-
lol, no worries on the vitriol, we have vastly different viewpoints on the topic of MDA and potential trades for CP3. FWIW I would also nix a Kevin Love trade for many of the same reasons (0bviosuly not Love taking the ball out of James’ hands)
-
-
-
Yes, it was, Gerald. D’Antoni has always been one of my sore points and I will always come to his defense against what I consider to be biased attacks on a great innovative coach. My apologies to you and Jamie.

5 Things: Finding Some Grit
65 games in and the team is starting to look a little sterner, little grittier. One of the ugliest first halves I’ve seen since the 90’s man. The win was one of the more impressive of the season, in my opinion. 1) Luka finding solace on the court. Sounds like his personal life has been […]
