Kyle Kuzma has agreed to a three-year, $40M contract extension

Player option on a non-max rookie extension is a first in league, a creative wrinkle that allows Kuzma into unrestricted free agency in his prime at 28. Smart move and great benefit for Kuzma should he out-perform this deal headed into summer of 2023.

A win-win for the LA Lakers and Kyle Kuzma on the three-year $40M rookie extension.

Player option allows Kuzma to enter FA in 2023 at the age of 28. At the very minimum he’s guaranteed $40M.

LAL has a team friendly $13M cap hit over the next three seasons-starting in 2021/22.

Don’t overthink the Kuz deal, please.

He’s commanding $15M+ on an open market next summer. Lakers are getting him at a discount, and incentivizing him to outperform this extension when we’d need to bring in someone post-LeBron.
