I respectfully disagree. Turner is the modern two-way center who can stretch defenses with his 3-point shooting and protect the rim with his shot blocking. He also allows AD to play his preferred power forward position. If you believe defense wins championships, this is the single way to make our defense even better than in last season’s playoffs.
There’s no way we keep Trezz if he plays well this season and in the playoffs. And there’s a good chance he will be a defensive liability in the playoffs. He also disappears in certain matchups.
As for THT, he’s a 20-year old who still makes lots of mistakes and at least two or three years from being a player you can count on. He’s not going to be a difference maker at this point.
Kuzma is the biggest piece you give up but even he can be inconsistent. As for our depth, an 11 man rotation is not going to work in the playoffs and after the trade we still have depth:
PG: Schroder, Caruso
SG: KCP, Matthews
SF: LeBron, McKinnie
PF: Davis, Morris
CE: Turner, Gasol
It will be a lot easier to find some 3-point shooters like Ellington for a second round pick or Aritza off the buyout market than a serviceable center who won’t be unplayable in the playoffs like Drummond or Whiteside.
Second rounder? Knicks have Robinson and Noel at center.
