@Tom, “Good realistic fiver, Jamie.” Yes, indeed. That was a well-pointed and realistic one. I completely agree with Jamie. At this point, I am lowering my expectations as we are going to go through a rough stretch before everyone comes back. I also know the team will play very hard which they did against Phoenix even though the final score says otherwise. I did not like Morris starting at center in that game as Ayton was able to have his way around him anyhow he wants. Instead, I looked forward to at least seeing Cacock given the chance, not that he would be the answer, but my feeling tells me he would have been able to disrupt Ayton’s rhythm. The center position is the one thing the team needs to plug. Let’s hope for the best as the team searches for its soul while LeBron and AD recover from their injuries. It’s not going to look good sometimes but I expect everybody to play hard. All your five points are valid and thank you for the post.

Los Angeles Lakers: A
Notable Additions: Montrezl Harrell, Wesley Matthews, Dennis Schroder, Marc Gasol
Notable Subtractions: Danny Green, Rajon Rondo, JaVale McGee, Avery Bradley, Dwight Howard
Notable Re-signings: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Markieff Morris
I’m not a huge fan of the Harrell signing because a team as attractive to free agents as the Los Angeles Lakers should have been able to find a more sensible fit with the full MLE. Harrell will keep opposing teams from erasing deficits whenever LeBron James sits, but it remains difficult to imagine him playing a significant role in the games that matter most.
That’s when Anthony Davis mans the 5, and the Lakers spread the floor to devastating effect.
Still, there’s a case to be made that Harrell will be better than expected if he spends more time at the 4. At least as far as the regular season goes, he’ll be an asset.
Additional help from Wesley Matthews, Dennis Schroder and Marc Gasol keeps the Lakers firmly atop the league’s hierarchy. Those three will all contribute to the rotation, with Schroder adding second-unit scoring L.A. lacked and Gasol bringing a new facilitating dimension to the center spot. He and James are going to conduct symphonies on offense, and though he’s aging, Gasol remains one of the sturdiest low-post defenders in the league. You need that type of player when you share a conference with Nikola Jokic.
The champs got better in virtually every facet. So much for post-title attrition.
This is the only good news we heard all night long. Only fools would think the Lakers championship aspirations aren’t in serious trouble with LeBron and AD out for anywhere between 10 and 20 of the remaining 29 games. We’re only 2 more losses away from having to win in the Play-In Tournament to make the playoffs.
The Lakers need to make a big move and praying Drummond gets bought out and decides to sign with us instead of the Nets does not qualify. Anybody who thinks otherwise is naive and living in a pipe dream. We need a point guard who shoots a high volume of threes and can run the offense and much as I like Dennis Schroder and Talen Horton-Tucker, that’s not either of them.
Lakers need to make a trade and the best candidate out there is Lonzo Ball who shoots 38.5% on 7.7 threes per game and averages 14.2 points, 4.2 boards, 5.6 assists, 0.6 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game and shoots 76.7% from the line. And can defend the 1, 2, and 3 spots. We can get him for KCP and THT and keep Schoeder, Harrell, and Kuzma.
