For reference, Ja Morant is 6’2 with a 44in max vertical leap. Bronny James is 6’2 with a 40.5in max vertical.— NBALakersReport (@NBALakersReport) July 6, 2025

Being that the average Vertical in the NBA is 28 inches, a 6’2 guy with a 41-inch vertical is ridiculous. LeBron at 6’9 was listed at 44 inches early in his career; and at 39, the last I saw was around 41 to 42. Clearly, Bronny got a lot of his Dad’s genes. 🔥— HiNote. 🛸 (@HiNoteee) May 13, 2024

WHO DOESN'T WANT TO DUNK?They say the basketball gods created the 3-point shot to give 5' 9" basketball players their counter to big men dunking the basketball. While I loved shooting threes, I spent a lifetime trying and failing to dunk a basketball.Growing up in the era… https://t.co/2zEA7lZ5I9 pic.twitter.com/lr4PSiqEwt— LakerTom (@LakerTom) July 7, 2025

Former Laker Mychal Thompson says DeAndre Ayton will prove how good he is to everyone – Via @LakersNation “I think it’s a great move. He’s the perfect center for the Lakers. Deandre Ayton and superstar Luka Dončić reportedly "were motivated to team up given the Lakers' well-chronicled need for a front-line center” after the veteran center agreed to a buyout with the Portland Trail Blazers.- @TheSteinLine pic.twitter.com/nAiXu8KX15— The Laker Files (@LakerFiles) July 6, 2025

It’s good that Luka and Ayton are friends. And share the same agent. But more importantly Brooks coached him for three years and was a big advocate of him coming to the Lakers. There is real upside here. We saw his floor in Portland and it was still better than we could have asked for. It could be special if he reaches his ceiling.

I’ll defer to Mr Big Shot Chauncey Billups. When you pay a dude $25mill to go away….in means something. When someone shows you who they are….believe them.
-
He gave up 10 mil in a contract year. He figured he could it back and he got most of it. He could have gotten all of it if he had chosen the Pacers. The Pacers still have 4 centers for some reason. They need to free up the money. He is in a new situation now. He’s betting on himself. No risk, high reward for him and the Lakers.

Talent has never been a question. He a solid scorer. Perhaps a few less jumpers. And a beast on the boards. Rebounding killed us last year. Would like to see more then on block a game.

FROM THE ABVOVE ARTICLE:
Team sources believe the Lakers have the right coaching staff to make that happen. In JJ Redick, they have a deadly serious head coach who also understands how to relate to players. Assistant Scott Brooks worked with Ayton in Portland two years ago, and Nate McMillan has either played or coached with or against virtually every personality type the NBA’s ever concocted. And if not, the Lakers have maintained their flexibility for next summer and beyond.
-
-
Frankly, by retaining Hayes and with that some actual team chemistry, Ayton just needs to be himself. We can let them play in 25/15 w/8 minutes or so of small ball with Luka, LeBron or Kleber at the 5.
-
For the talent, even if he picks up his option next season (and remember that NOLA was high enough on him to offer him a deal that Phoenix just matched) he’d at worse be a high risk/reward expiring contract.

Hard to find much to disagree with, I also hated losing DFS but it sounds like he wanted a larger role and I’m not sure I’d swap him with Rui. Finney-Smith is approaching/in his twilight. Rui has gotten better as a Laker every season, any kind of uptick in what is already a solid role player would be great.

Have you wondered why Simmons is still available? He played in the first 5 playoff games. He played a total of 42 minutes. Scored 4 points and 6 assists over those 5 games. Lue didn’t trust him enough to even play him in the last 2 games. Something broke in this guy. He hasn’t been good since that 76ers playoff loss.

Folks need to come to the realization that this new CBA and 2nd Apron is going to cause alotta top teams to jetison some of their best role players to stay under that Apron. It’s not just the money but all the other restrictions and penalties that come into play. We just saw Boston do it and OKC is gonna feel some pain when they’re forced to let guys like Dort & Hartenstein go. That $15 to $20mill price range is in danger.
As for DFS…the bigger problem is that he was one of our last true 2-way players. We lost AD & Max Christie to get Luka. Now without DFS we’ve got no perimeter defense and no rim protector as well. You can get away with that during the regular season but it becomes a real problem in the playoffs. Good guards will have their choice of attacking Luka or Reaves everytime in the halfcourt…
