🚨Breaking: Rob Pelinka says the Lakers have given JJ Redick a contract extensionRedick signed a four-year, $32M deal last summer and went 50-32 in his first season pic.twitter.com/zdeGmZU3BX— Bleacher Report (@BleacherReport) September 25, 2025
My first thought was “Why?”. My second thought was “Because of Luka.” I’m not saying Luka is all in on JJ as head coach but I think the Lakers are trying to put as much of a “this is who we are for the foreseeable future” face forward as they possibly can. They desperately need to keep Luka appeased and if he says/said something about not liking coaching turnover…well…what better way to quell that as much as possible by re-upping with a coach who did OK in his first year. Not great, OK.
I did like hearing how JJ assessed himself before he went around assessing his players. If true, my hope is that it results in a less panic-y playoff vibe (dude just looked completely overwhelmed and showed it in the last 3 games) and a generally less pissed off demeanor.
Take a page out of the most successful NBA coach in history, Mr. Phil Jackson, and be cool. You can be PO’d on your own time.
Anyhow, all this really means is that, if he gets fired, he has a steady paycheck for some time. Or at least until he finds another NBA head coaching gig.
De acuerdo a información de Shams, los Lakers extendieron el contrato de JJ Redick por dos años más, para un total de 5 años y 45 Millones, eso significa que Redick será coach de los Lakers hasta la temporada 2029-2030
Great move to commit long-term to JJ Redick as the future head coach of the Lakers.
