Aloha,
From the intel I have been hearing, it was DFS that wanted to move on. The Lakers wanted to keep him. The only thing I can think of is he wasn’t happy with his role. It appears that the Rockets are getting him.
There is an interesting move that could be good for both teams. A sign and trade for Whitmore and Lawndale could work for the both teams. This is was out there before but it’s being talked about again. Signing DFS leaves little wiggle room with roster spots to fill. This trade would give them flexibility.
I would be comfortable with Lawndale as a back up center and Whitmore is long and extremely athletic. When you look at the free agent class there aren’t many options to replace DFS. I have been impressed with Whitmore the few times I’ve seen him play. And we would still have our Tax payer MLE to sign another center.
